Raghuraman is a self-thought musician with a career spanning over 40 years. Being a multi-faceted artist, Raman is a composer, carnatic vocalist and skilled in other genf He was considered by many of his peers back in the early days as an accomplished musician. He has the adept ability to decipher and elaborate ragas and kritis with a gifted rich voice and Sruthi Suddham (pitch clarity). Music connoisseurs who have worked with him profess that he exudes so much passion and emotional resonance in his rendition of any kritis that he renders.
Even well in his mid 60s, Raman continues to expand his repertoire in various kritis and ragas by composers ranging from Tygaraja, Dikshitar, Syama Sastri, Swati Tirunal, Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar, Papanasam Sivan, Sadasiva Brahmendra, Purandara Dasa and the list go on.
Raman’s Carnatic recitals characterizes musical vibrancy. He renders neeravals and kalpanaswarams in any ragas with equal ease that is a testament of his command in manodharma and layam. He draws inspiration from great vidwans like Madurai Mani Iyer, GNB, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, DK Jayaraman, MD Ramanathan, Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, etc.
His immense talent was laid bare when he captivated the entire audience in a 1987 National Carnatic Music Festival in Kuala Lumpur old town hall. Since that moment, senior musicians have sought to accompany him in concerts.
Raghuraman has collaborated in many musical projects for Bharatiyar Festivals between 2015 and present. He has singlehandedly tuned and rendered Bharathiyar compositions in various Carnatic ragas.
Since 2018, he has composed and rendered Thiruppugazh in various ragas like Paramagurunathar in Todi, Sururthimudi in Renuka raga, Nyana Vibushini in Vagadeeshwari and many others. In conjunction with the Arunagirinathar Festivals, he has given several full thematic vocal recitals depicting Thiruppugazh compositions.
Raghuraman has worked with many artistes cum literature enthusiasts with his profound ability to compose Tamil poetry set to various ragas like Yenni Paar in Shanmukhapriya, Vaaydikai Maanthar Thamby in Hamsanadham to name a few.
There is no barrier to the gift of his voice. Despite being visually challenged, his has an innate ability to render vocal support meticulously in live Barathanatyam peformance. He has extensively rendered vocal support for Barathanatyam since the mid 1990s. In particular for the last 25 years, he has been the resident vocalist for Malaysian Kalakshetra graduate Guru Sarmala Devi Harikrishnan and back in the late 90s for Guru Tamilselvi Paramasivam.
His philanthropic endeavours is something to be emulated by all able-bodied individuals. Raghuraman had embarked on a nationwide fund-raising musical tour in the early 2000s under EWRF for the welfare and development of underprivileged and disabled children in many projects in Malaysia and for displaced children in war-stricken Sri Lanka. He has also participated in supporting projects like the Tamil Foundation and My Skill to name a few for the benefit of underprivileged school students. He has regularly supported the charitable initiatives under the Malaysian Association for The Blind (MAB), Society of the Blind Malaysia (SBM) and Malaysian Blind Sports Association. Raman is instrumental in training some blind artistes under the MAB in the fundamentals of carnatic ragas in enhancing their musical skills.

2014 - Raman performed at an inter cultural exchange programme in
Mauritius organized by Prof Dr. Paramasivam of Universiti Putra
Malaysia.
2014 - Performed in South Africa for in a Carnatic cum jugalbandi recital.
2015 - Awarded the Tamil Isai Vaanar award by the Tamil Association of Malaysia presented by the late maestro MS Viswanathan.
2016 - Mel Isai Thilagam Award by the Australian Tamil Association in Sydney.
2025 – Sangeethalayam Malaysia award designate for 2025 in honor of Vidwan Raghuraman
